, serious snow expected there in the next several days. look at the west coast and seattle, the snow levels have been down as low as 200 feet. they will go up to 400 feet for the afternoon. some of these snowfall totals, very substantial going into the next several days. could see 10 or 20 inches of snowfall. but in the midwest, this is what we'll focus on. we haven't seen a significant snow event like this. this one occurs as we go into wednesday and then for thursday, so you're traveling into chicago or des moines or topeka, wichita and even into denver. you could expect perhaps some delays later on in the workweek. how about 48-hour snowfall totals? spokane just under 5 inches being reported there. in libby, montana, two-day snow totals just about 2 feet. and newtown, connecticut, right now overcast with rain. the temperature a cold rain. 41 degrees. the winds are out of the east and northeast but as we go into the next five days, we'll look at a little bit of a break weatherwise. those temperatures will remain in the 40s but then as we go into friday, the rain is going to return and a 2

[ cheers ] >> reporter: washington state's new law makes it legal for adults to possess up to one ounce of marijuana. >> the fist legal imported in washington state. >> reporter: the initiative, passed in the november election, is modeled on alcohol laws. it's still illegal to drive if impaired or possess pot if you're under 21. and technically you're not allowed to smoke in public. though seattle police received a directive to issue verbal warnings only. this is what you can legally possess, one ounce. you can use it in private but stores still won't be licensed to sell it for recreational use for another year. so without a prescription there is still no sale. recreational users are going to say where am i going to go to buy this marijuana? if it's illegal to sell marijuana still. >> reporter: federal law still prohibits marijuana use in any state, and the department of justice is reviewing possible actions. >> the federal government might prosecute anyone w

of the west coast, seattle, down to california. christmas leave looks more tranquil. that snow will dumping snow in portions of rockies and colorado and wyoming. we'll be accumulating snowfall and eventually this storm is going to head into the center of the country. it will be a pretty strong storm and very cold air with it. so definitely we're going to be talking about snow accumulations texas panhandle, parts of arkansas and missouri and illinois. some of these countries don't see a white christmas. so we're talking about quite a bit of snow, up to six inches locally and higher amounts, a winter storm watch has been issued across the state of oklahoma. good news for anyone that wants snow in the center of the country. christmas eve, messy day out in southeast and thunderstorms ahead of that winter storm could be firing up as severe weather. we'll keep an eye on portions of south. not just christmas eve but even christmas day, severe weather with thunderstorms that could produce some isolated tornadoes and large hail. >> gregg: it could be making it to grandma's house a little tricky. >>
